For inventors and first-time founders

Product feasibility study for US inventors: the honest answer before you spend the big money

Before you pay for patents, prototypes or tooling, find out if your product can be built, certified and sold at a price that works. In about 10 days our engineers give you a written verdict, a target cost per unit and a fixed quote to build it.

The short answer

What is a product feasibility study?

A product feasibility study checks whether your product can be built, certified and made at a price people will pay, before you spend on the expensive steps. Ours takes about 10 days, costs $1,000 to $2,000, and ends in a clear verdict with a fixed quote for the next stage.

What you walk away with

One of three answers, and the reasons behind it

Go

It can be built and sold at your target. You get the plan and a fixed quote to start.

Change it

It works with changes. We show what to cut, swap or simplify so the numbers work.

Don't build it

The numbers or the physics don't work. Better to learn that now than after tooling.

We get paid the same whichever answer it is, so you get the honest one.

Product and business

Engineering facts and business input in one study

Most studies stop at "can it be built". Ours also asks "should it be built this way", because a product that works but costs too much to make is still a failure.

First version (MVP)

The smallest product that proves the idea, and what can wait for version two.

Build or buy

Which parts to design and which to buy ready-made, to save time and money.

Target cost per unit

What each unit should cost to make, so your price leaves you a margin.

Staged roadmap

Prototype, pilot and production steps, each with its own budget and gate.

Market and price

Market size, competing products and the price range buyers expect.

Go-to-market input

Where your first buyers are and what they need to see before they buy.

We give you the evidence and our view. Pricing, marketing and sales decisions stay yours.

Why the first unit misleads

See how your cost per unit falls with volume

Your first unit always looks expensive, because one-off costs like molds and test fixtures land on it. Spread them over a real order and the picture changes. The study works this out for your product.

Protecting your idea

Share your idea safely, and patent at the right time

NDA first

We sign a non-disclosure agreement before you share any details.

Study before patents

Check it can be built and sold before you pay for a full patent.

Ask a patent attorney

We're engineers, not lawyers. We'll tell you what to ask them.

USPTO facts as general information: a provisional patent application gives you 12 months of "patent pending" and cannot be extended; the USPTO filing fee is $65, $130 or $325 depending on entity size (USPTO, Jan 2025). The USPTO Patent Pro Bono Program can match eligible inventors with volunteer attorneys. Not legal advice.

FAQ

Feasibility study questions inventors ask us

How much does a product feasibility study cost?

With us, $1,000 to $2,000, fixed before we start. The price depends on how complex the product is, and you know it after a free 30-minute call.

How long does a feasibility study take?

About 10 days from the NDA to the written study and fixed quote.

What if the study says my idea isn't feasible?

You keep the study and the reasons. Often a change makes it work, and we'll say what. If it can't work, you've saved the cost of prototypes and tooling.

Should I patent before or after a feasibility study?

Many inventors file a provisional application first to get 12 months of "patent pending", then use the study to decide whether a full patent is worth it. Ask a registered patent attorney about your case.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes, before you share any details.

Who owns the study?

You do. You can use it with us, with another engineering firm, or with investors.

Can I use the study to raise money?

Yes. It gives investors the build plan, cost per unit, certification route and a fixed development price.

How is a feasibility study different from a prototype or proof of concept?

A study answers "should we build it, and how" on paper. A proof of concept tests the riskiest part. A prototype is a working model. The study tells you which of those to build next.

Do you help sell or license my invention?

No. We engineer and build products. We don't promise licensing deals, buyers or investors.
